Kobelco’s New 50 Tonne Excavator Now Available

Kobelco’s latest addition the 50 tonne SK500LC-9 excavator, hits Australian shores this month, bringing with it increased power, enhanced fuel efficiency and a larger safer cab.

Kobelco Australia General Manager Doug McQuinn says the new Kobelco 50 tonne excavator model is already attracting interest.

We are already fielding enquiries from customers and we expect early orders,” he says

The Kobelco SK500LC-9 features a Hino P11C-VC six-cylinder common rail engine that delivers 10% more productivity and better fuel efficiency than the previous model, the SK480LC-8 – and is still more fuel efficient.

The engine is Tier 4A certified for reduced emissions, meanwhile more engine torque and ‘intelligent’ hydraulics gives you faster cycle times so you can get more work done.
Along with Kobelco’s familiar H-mode and S-mode options for heavy-duty and standard work, there’s also a new ECO mode for huge fuel savings of up to 13%. Plus ECO mode, increases the work volume per litre of fuel by 8%.

Adding to this, the Kobelco SK500LC-9 gives 5.4% higher engine power output and a maximum torque increase of 5%, which makes this an impressive machine.
Doug says, “The cab not only has improved productivity, the new model offers enhanced safety and comfort with rollover protection and certification to 56,000 kg to cater for large front attachments.”

The cab has falling object protection (FOPS) and its roomy dimensions make it comfortable for operators as well as offering plenty of storage space. The Kobelco SK500LC-9 cab is designed for minimal vibration and is pressurised to eliminate dust. Plus, you get excellent rear visibility thanks to the low engine cover and wide-angle rear view camera that comes standard.

There’s a seven inch colour monitor and a sophisticated attachment mode that allows the operator to program 10 different flow and pressure settings to accommodate a wide variety of attachments.

“Kobelco’s Intelligent Control System recognises the operator’s moves and assists by providing power when and where it is needed. Cushioned transitions between functions reduce jerkiness during high speed movements.”

The beefy Kobelco SK500LC-9 has an operating weight of almost 50,000kg and a long X-frame for excellent stability and balance. Doug says “The model also features a high capacity hydraulic system that can be adjusted from inside the cab and two auxiliary hydraulic models that let you switch between one-way and two-way flow, again without leaving the cab.”

A full selection of buckets and couplers are available to maximise the versatility of the SK500LC-9.

“With its fuel savings, huge power, intelligent hydraulics and enhanced operator safety and comfort, the new Kobelco SK500LC-9 will meet the needs of Australian heavy equipment operators,” Doug says.
